Tanker hit by external explosion off Oman coast: UKMTO

LONDON, May 26 (Xinhua) -- A tanker reported an external explosion about 60 nautical miles east of Muscat in the Gulf of Oman, with no casualties reported, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said Tuesday.

According to UKMTO, the tanker's master said the explosion occurred on the port side near the stern of the vessel, close to the waterline.

The crew and vessel remain safe, although some bunker fuel was discharged into the sea.

The cause of the incident remains unclear, and authorities are investigating.
